Overview

Oakton College provides provides Google email services to current students and employees.  This article describes the scope of services provided, and provides instructions on accessing  and forwarding campus email services.

Scope of Services

All active Oakton credit and continuing education students are provided with a Google email account in the form of <username>@oakton.edu, which is intended to communicate important administrative information, support learning outcomes, and share other College news.

Oakton also supports email forwarding to a user-designated personal email address for students.  If this option is exercised, a copy of the forwarded email will also be kept in the student's campus email account.  Students are solely responsible for the receipt and security of emails forwarded off-campus at their request.

Restrictions

Students who are not enrolled in the current academic term are restricted to communicating only with academic and administrative offices, faculty, and certain learning partners.  This includes students who have applied for admission but have not yet enrolled in classes, as well as students who have completed a degree program and graduated from the College.  Students subject to this restriction will receive a failure notice when attempting to send email to other student accounts or off-campus addresses, and similarly will not be able to receive messages from those sources.

Accessing Oakton Gmail

You can access your Oakton Gmail account on or off campus by logging in to https://my.oakton.edu and navigating to the email card, or directly at https://mail.google.com/a/oakton.edu.

Email Forwarding

Students can change their preferred off-campus email by logging in to myOakton and navigating to the Update E-mail Addresses page and following the instructions as listed.  If an off-campus email address is set as the preferred email, a copy of all messages sent to the campus email address will also be sent to the specified address.  Students who wish to cancel email forwarding can simply set their preferred email back to the campus address.
